Published work on how markets are changing and the implications

Original research on market structure, trading technology evolution and sustainable finance, commissioned by industry bodies and published independently since 2020, and for TABB Group and Liquidnet from 2011.

Market structure issues are rarely resolved, just relocated. In 2013, Dark Matters made the case that alternative liquidity pools were essential for institutional trading – the one place a position could be built or exited without moving the price against the underlying investor. Thirteen years on, dark still matters. Caps came in and order flow found other routes, which leaves the same two questions: why does institutional flow still need an alternative to the lit market, and what now needs to change – outlined in Markets Unstructured.
