What I learnt from my conversations last week on the latest on AI in trading
- DeepSeek 2 – 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝘀 landed March 6. It is an invite-only AI agent excelling in research and execution, further deepening the Chinese challenge to Silicon Valley’s AI dominance. Take a look here – https://manus.im/share/xFgpHb15vKqfRPWIs3JJPJ?replay=1
- While AI Democratizes Trading Tools and appears to be making sophisticated AI technology more accessible and potentially reducing costs for traders, effective utilization still has its challenges – read more here on what we discussed at #FIXEMEA2025 last week on this (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/ai-trading-moving-up-learning-curve-fixemea2025-rebecca-healey-imeve/ )
- Wall Street’s Continued AI Adoption into Portfolio Management: Major financial institutions are integrating generative AI tools to enhance productivity, automate processes, and improve decision-making – and it’s here now https://www.linkedin.com/posts/armando-gonzalez-a28572b_when-your-portfolio-is-at-risk-and-ai-knows-activity-7302308027326435329-tkU9/
- AI innovation is not slowing down and the battle has moved into Quantum – Zuchongzhi 3.0 achieved a major computing milestone by completing a complex task in seconds — something classical supercomputers would take 6.4 billion years to achieve. However, claims that it’s “one million times faster” than Google’s Willow processor could be misleading. While Zuchongzhi excels in raw computational power, Willow emphasizes fault tolerance and error correction — crucial for scalable quantum computing. Both processors have 105 qubits but focus on different strengths, making direct speed comparisons context-dependent.
- Looking to trial an Agent: Convergence, the UK-based startup taking on OpenAI’s Operator, just released a new Template Hub filled with dozens of pre-made AI agents for you to try such as a daily news digest and a stock tracker – try it here – https://proxy.convergence.ai/
- One extra this week to end on a positive note amid concerns about AI’s seemingly inevitable dominance and imminent arrival of AGI — there’s a growing perspective growing that AI is really just “yes-men on servers,” adept at processing existing knowledge but not really breaking new ground. While AI thrives on memorization and pattern recognition – skills rewarded in traditional education, AI falls short when it comes to true creativity and innovation. Real progress relies on unconventional thinking, the ability to challenge established norms, and asking bold questions; strengths that, for now, remain uniquely human.
